Amersham HP7 - Buckinghamshire | Party Wall Appointment

Amersham, Buckinhamshire Party Wall Appointment (close to Chingford, Leyton, Woodford and Tottenham)

Background: The excavations works to form new foundations were not considered risk factors given that the houses were detached and some distance apart. However, the proposed rear extension was to run alongside the adjoining owner's boundary wall which also retained the higher land of the adjoining owner and this was considered a risk factor.

We were appointed by the Building Owner and subsequently also appointed by the Adjoining Owner as Agreed Surveyor.

There was one adjoining owner.

The works involved front and rear extensions.

Conclusion:

The excavations alongside the existing boundary wall posed a risk to it. Where the boundary wall terminated, a raised terrace had been formed where the higher ground of the Adjoining Owner was less robustly retained.

The engineer was asked to provide a solution to mitigate the risks and they specified sequenced hit and miss foundations for the foundations alongside the existing boundary wall. With regards the raised terrace behind it, a special retaining wall was designed alongside it in order to act as a retaining wall before the foundations could be excavated.
