Choosing a Surveyor
About
Having reviewed the drawings for hundreds of projects as Party Wall Surveyors, we have found that the quality of drawings produced varies greatly.
Poor quality drawings typically have the following shortcomings:
• Inconsistent design or missing information. The contractor will be left either scratching his head when trying to figure out what exactly he is supposed to build, or he will make mistakes by following the drawing errors.
• Engineering drawings designed by a computer program: A generic program can assist an engineer but cannot replace the engineer. Each property is unique and cannot be approached generically as in 'computer says yes'.
• Non- compliance with the Party Wall Act: The Party Wall Act requires that certain information must be provided when notifying neighbours of the proposed works. Poor drawings are likely to be not fit for Party Wall purposes.
